These are my links for September 24th through December 18th:

  • VIDEO ROOM 1000 COMPLETE MIX — All 1000 videos seen in sequential order! – YouTube – Interesting art experiment uploading/ripping the same video 1,000 times to show how digital format DO decay with copying, as previous art experiment in audio and copy degradation also played with, include Andy Warhol.
  • Netimperative | News | Today’s top stories – Infographic on who, how and where people are using QR codes. Interestingly, most people use them at home.
  • Mobile Commerce report – Taking quite an affiliate led view, this is non the less a useful report summarising the uptake in mobile devices and behaviours, the potential successes to be had from a smoother optimised site for mobile and some tactics for success in mobile commerce.
  • First Look At The New MySpace: It’s All About Music – Revealing new pitch by MySpace: emphasises the sustaining number of their audience (hard to believe) and commitment to promoting MySpace as the ‘go to’ music portal – though seems to be aimed at selling ad space to majors.

These are my links for July 15th through July 16th:

  • One digital strategy, maximum ROI | Econsultancy – Good view of how you can measure your digital strategy, and manage this either in-house or working with an agency or independent strategist. Digital Consultant provides an unbias service to manage digital strategy, ideal if you don’t have the expertise or headspace internally to manage it.
  • Google+ : Early access doesn’t mean early success | Econsultancy – Why you may want to think, look and plan before joining in the new ‘buzz’ over at Google+ (but do have a look – it’s exciting stuff), and see how it integrates with your digital strategy.
  • Want A Spotify Invite From Klout? The Magic Number Is…20 | paidContent:UK – Interesting partnership: as Spotify US hits the market, they’ve teamed up with Klout to allow early invitations to only those with a certain level of ‘social influence’. Perhaps a marketing gimmick, but interesting model for how exclusivity and rationalising services can be linked to influence.
  • Giving social media marketing a strategic purpose – Marrying the marketing aims with the social approach; Is your strategy about brand awareness, customer engagement or sales? It can only be one of them. Good advice.

These are my links for November 5th through November 13th:

  • Bridging the gap between our online and offline social network – Presentation by Paul Adams on the links between individuals public and private, online and offline networks, giving more credence to theories that ‘weak ties’ and ‘temporary ties’ can be enhanced online, but core relationships remain small, and the ‘tribe’ of 150 is a powerful number for ‘real’ relationships. (hat tip: Pete Ashton)
  • Augmented Reality « Culture Hacker – A few more fun examples of augmented reality campaign c.o Fred Steube
  • Digital Tonto: Digital strategy vs. digital skills – Reflective article on what skills, versus what strategy, is needed to succeed in the digital age looking at examples of big media like Warner and Conde Nast at the business and acquisition skills that helped them to thrive, or destroy their value, online.

These are my links for June 18th through June 23rd:

  • Social Media Playbook – A little 101, but some useful up-to-date stats on the latest hip and happening social media networks, and some tips as to how to use them well for business in this E-Book. I disagree with some of their frequency guidelines: this should depend on the quality of content you have and the level of engagement of your audience.
  • New training courses I’m delivering: Creating Online Video for Web and Personal Branding – I've recently started to develop and deliver e-marketing training courses for Derby's Creative Exchange, a professional media training centre at University of Derby. I'm really excited about these new courses which are really expanding the reach of e-marketing to new practical and strategy elements. The first two courses are on Creating Online Video for the Web (29 June) and Personal Branding (30 June). Both are free to Derby city residents, and cost £25 if you're not.
  • The future of social/E-Mail Integration – E-Marketer research on businesses linking their social media to email campaigns, and vice versa. Seems very few are doing it (which seems like a no brainer to me) but more are going to step up their integration. I always say to clients: don't throw baby out with the bathwater: email marketing is still the highest conversion, highest sharing of 'social' media and best way to build in a long term opt-in customer base.
  • Margaret Gould Stewart: How YouTube thinks about copyright – Video from the Iconic TED conference series on how YouTube's technology allow rights holders to register tracks and when matches in the system are detected (including music in the background and mashups) the rights holder can decide if they wish to allow their film & music work to be used in its new context, presenting a new twist on copyright in the digital age.
