These are my links for September 24th through December 18th:

  • VIDEO ROOM 1000 COMPLETE MIX — All 1000 videos seen in sequential order! – YouTube – Interesting art experiment uploading/ripping the same video 1,000 times to show how digital format DO decay with copying, as previous art experiment in audio and copy degradation also played with, include Andy Warhol.
  • Netimperative | News | Today’s top stories – Infographic on who, how and where people are using QR codes. Interestingly, most people use them at home.
  • Mobile Commerce report – Taking quite an affiliate led view, this is non the less a useful report summarising the uptake in mobile devices and behaviours, the potential successes to be had from a smoother optimised site for mobile and some tactics for success in mobile commerce.
  • First Look At The New MySpace: It’s All About Music – Revealing new pitch by MySpace: emphasises the sustaining number of their audience (hard to believe) and commitment to promoting MySpace as the ‘go to’ music portal – though seems to be aimed at selling ad space to majors.

These are my links for August 14th through August 16th:

  • 500 Internal Server Error – 500 Internal Server Error
  • Layar gets a Vision, and a revenue stream • The Register – Augmented Reality (AR) is, undoubtedly, 'the future', but the problem as yet is most non-gaming brands have strugged to monetize it. Layar, the app which brings AR to businesses and brands, is licensing its auto recognition software per view to brands giving a chance to experiment with adding mobile data to real world places. Nice video to explain the concept.
  • Digital Strategy: Do you really want a strategy? – Rich Nadworny with a bitter pill lesson: many who say they want digital strategy really want tactics and something tangible; real digital (and indeed business) strategy involve making tough decisions about what will create impact and cutting out other options.
  • Ofcom says no to web-blocking – Updated on the roll out of the Hargreaves Review on Intellectual Property and the Digital Economy Act – a year's delay in issuing copyright notification letters and an end to web-blocking. Phew!
  • TV goes home, even when mobile – Nielsen research shows a third of mobile video viewing is done in the home, with large segments viewing in the car or during a daily commute.

These are my links for May 21st through May 31st:

  • WTF is… 4G – A beginner's tech guide to understanding the technology and potential applications for 4G phone networks, which will take over from current 3G networks from 2015 to support better data applications.
  • Most Android Apps Are Hardly Downloaded At All – 80/20 rules in force here: 80% of Android mobile apps have been downloaded less than 100 times, showing the 'long tail' of hits to misses is proportional to other aspects of the media industries. This lends more weight to the thought that Android users are less high value than Blackberry and iPhone when looking at spend per user.
  • Keynote: How to Develop a Mobile Strategy – Presentation video and slides by Jeremiah Owyang, Altimeter, looking at the new strategy approaches needed for mobile including the 'hourglass' engagement where further loyalty is build after purchase. Presents very good example of successful marketing and commerce apps.
  • Tablets Are Money Spinners, But Less Than 5% Use Them Today | paidContent:UK – US adoption stats show smartphone are used by 1 in 3 people, but only 5% are using Tablets (compared to 9% e-readers). Perhaps tablets are the trendy edge of the more basic trend to move from print to e-readers?
  • Taking on Hargreaves’ ‘Digital Opportunity’ – Open Rights Group's mini summary of the Hargreaves Review on copyright reform for the digital age which covers fair use, evidence, policy making and licensing reform.
