These are my links for September 7th through September 10th:

  • Customer Engagement Report 2010 – Econsultancy’s latest report shows that digital engagement is on the increase: investment in mobile and activities in email marketing, microblogging and social networking are leading the way in how businesses are learning to communicate and engage with their customers and audiences.
  • Is the tablet computing era about to begin? – As new tablet devices to compete with Apple’s million-seller iPad, there may be a strong future in the tablet market, but it’s all to play for.
  • Facebook Places throws down gauntlet to location-based social networks – The launch of Facebook places doubtlessly turns over the applecart for early location services Gowalla and Foursquare. The future is bright for check-ins, although it’s causing another privacy scare as users resent the opt-in inclusion of location data, which means users movements are easier to track.

These are my links for January 22nd through January 25th:

  • Your Brain Can’t Handle Your Facebook Friends – Intriguingly most people can only really maintain interaction with about 150 people. This is a common theme looking at sizes of 'tribes' but it seems people don't change much, and it equally applies to Facebook. With 700 friends each on Twitter and Facebook, I've recently started to segment people down to 'essential' (regularly check their posts) and 'other' (check if I have time). How are you handling your social networks nowadays?
  • Artists of the World Unite! – Great review of Seth Godin, the guy who coined the phrase 'conversational marketing', new book "Linchpin" which is all abou thow people in a business need to change their thinking to fit in with the web 2.0 world. Also some useful ideas about not following social media just to feel like you're not missing out. How true.
  • Essential Social Media Tools for the Small Business – Yet another SM guide…this time with some useful links to articles about tools and optimising your presence on Facebook and also Yelp – a new one to me (predominantly US site) which collates reviews and interactiosn around physical presence retail businesses, and is challenging Foursquare by including 'check in' options. Location based digital social marketing, accessed by mobile, will be VERY BIG by the end of 2010.

These are my links for January 17th through January 18th:

  • Technology Review: How Google Ranks Tweets – The news that Twitter results will be included in Google has come as a cheer to those of us working within the social web. This article suggests that 'popular' Tweeters (i.e. those with a lot of followers, whose followers have high follow numbers) will rank higher in search terms, as 'followers' are akin to links in how Google calculate Page Rank.
  • Howard Rheingold interview – USA – Lengthy BBC interview with online communities and education expert Howard Rheingold discussing how virtual communities have developed and are evolving.
  • 5 Ways Foursquare is Changing the World – Foursquare, the mobile game that rewards location activity attending real-world places, is the latest phenomena in social gaming, but also offers means of retail spaces to reward customer loyalty.
