These are my links for January 24th through January 26th:

  • Do you really need a digital marketing strategy? – An odd article for Digital Consultant to link to, as usually our answer to this question is 'yes'. But e-Marketing guru Dave Chaffney raises some interesting points – progressive companies shouldn't NEED a digital strategy, it should be integrated into their marketing plan.

Companies who need to work out how digital fits in with their business, and develop the skills and resources, need a digital strategy today.

  • Don’t Get Lost in Tactics: 4 Ways to Stick to Your Digital Strategy – No nonsense advice by Greg Kihlstom from Carousel30 on ensuring your tactics to execute your digital strategy aren't swayed overly by reverse engineering business changes, fashions or fads and ensuring you measure the return-on-investment of your time, as well as money.
  • Ten tips for measuring the ROI on your digital strategy – A slightly analytics and numeric view (Digital Consultant like to balance these in with softer 'investment' targets with our clients) but some good starting points for considering a return-on-investment to your digital marketing programmes.
  • Understanding and Improving Email Deliverability – Getting those lovely, pretty HTML newsletter into your customer's inbox is a thorny challenge: here's some technical and business tips to making sure they hit the box.
  • The Secrets to Successful Strategy Execution – 2008 Harvard Business Review in-depth guide to research into how businesses (predominantly big corporates) execute strategy through the whole company.

  • 500 Internal Server Error – 500 Internal Server Error
  • Layar gets a Vision, and a revenue stream • The Register – Augmented Reality (AR) is, undoubtedly, 'the future', but the problem as yet is most non-gaming brands have strugged to monetize it. Layar, the app which brings AR to businesses and brands, is licensing its auto recognition software per view to brands giving a chance to experiment with adding mobile data to real world places. Nice video to explain the concept.
  • Digital Strategy: Do you really want a strategy? – Rich Nadworny with a bitter pill lesson: many who say they want digital strategy really want tactics and something tangible; real digital (and indeed business) strategy involve making tough decisions about what will create impact and cutting out other options.
  • Ofcom says no to web-blocking – Updated on the roll out of the Hargreaves Review on Intellectual Property and the Digital Economy Act – a year's delay in issuing copyright notification letters and an end to web-blocking. Phew!
  • TV goes home, even when mobile – Nielsen research shows a third of mobile video viewing is done in the home, with large segments viewing in the car or during a daily commute.

  • Multichannel Marketing Metrics » Strategic Roadmap for Digital Marketing in 2011: eBook for Marketing Execs – Guide to strategic planning for digital marketing, taking a corporate led approach, to look at different strands of e-marketing (including search, ROI and social media) and elements of strategic planning and goal setting.
  • Do Daily Deals Encourage Repeat Business? – Daily deal sites like Groupon and LivingSocial are good for consumers, but are the right for your business and how do they work within your digital strategy? Insightful US research on deals for repeat visit shows for certain services they do drive repeat business. Vendors were less confident, with less than half wanting to repeat a deal. Like paid search, deal drive volume but not necessarily loyalty.

These are my links for July 15th through July 16th:

  • One digital strategy, maximum ROI | Econsultancy – Good view of how you can measure your digital strategy, and manage this either in-house or working with an agency or independent strategist. Digital Consultant provides an unbias service to manage digital strategy, ideal if you don’t have the expertise or headspace internally to manage it.
  • Google+ : Early access doesn’t mean early success | Econsultancy – Why you may want to think, look and plan before joining in the new ‘buzz’ over at Google+ (but do have a look – it’s exciting stuff), and see how it integrates with your digital strategy.
  • Want A Spotify Invite From Klout? The Magic Number Is…20 | paidContent:UK – Interesting partnership: as Spotify US hits the market, they’ve teamed up with Klout to allow early invitations to only those with a certain level of ‘social influence’. Perhaps a marketing gimmick, but interesting model for how exclusivity and rationalising services can be linked to influence.
  • Giving social media marketing a strategic purpose – Marrying the marketing aims with the social approach; Is your strategy about brand awareness, customer engagement or sales? It can only be one of them. Good advice.
