These are my links for December 15th through December 16th:

  • Silent majority risk worse customer service as companies monitor Twitter, Facebook – Could this be start of the social media mafia taking over? Strengthening my view that social media is an essential part of customer service, it appear big brand are doing more to target people whinging in public online platforms to issues rather than offering good customer service across the board. Sadly,if this continue it will force more people to 'out' businesses rather than deal with matters privately, which is potentially a great worry for businesses, large and small.
  • The man who plans to bring the internet to your television screen – Interview with Erik Huggers, BBC Head of Future Media, on Project Canvas – the ambitious collaboration between major broadcasters to build an online and digital TV marketplace for on-demand content.

These are my links for November 10th from 08:55 to 08:57:

  • T-Shirts and Suits – Powerful Customers – The era of customer choice and customer power is on us, and those creative businesses which ignore it do so at their own peril. Neat little article by legendary creative business advisor David Parrish.
  • Project Canvas throws open online scheme – Project Kangaroo (the all channels iPlayers) died a death but now Project Canvas aims to bring internet TV to television through a set top box. Initially trialed with ISPs and public service broadcasters, it's already under criticism of unfair competition from Sky, who believe its aim to increase access and diversity of content are irreconcilable.

These are my links for October 9th through October 12th:

  • BBC and key Bristol players form First City Partnership – Beeb partners with Bristol's key players including Council and RDA to work towards key issues collectively including increasing local TV production and tackling digital divide. Good move in times of financial consolidation.
  • Gaming and animation in the North West of England, a special report – Report by How Do, Experian and Business Link on the games and animation industry in the North West, mainly taking a journalistic slant by profiling companies through interview with a few quotes and stats from secondary research thrown in for good measure.

These are my links for September 23rd through September 30th:

  • Lily Allen ‘quits music’ after abuse over file-sharing fight – A sad and mixed story, heady with pop stars and government spin doctors…Lily Allen, the supposed MySpace heroine, blogger and Twitter, claims to be knocking music on head due to abuse to her support of Peter Mandelson's 'three strikes and your out' policy regarding illegal downloading. Her siding with the music biz and government probably hasn't done her fanbase much digital-indie cred, but that's the problem with making file-sharing illicit – it's an industry built on getting into trouble with authority.
  • Thompson signals review will reduce size of BBC – Looks like the Beeb are publicly planning for the savage budget cuts likely to follow in what Director General Mark Thompson describes as a move from 'both-and' to 'either or'. The additional digital channels and web services, I wonder, if will be likely to be viewed as less essential. I suspect younger audiences will keep their digital, olders shows will see web tie-ins cut back.
